President Obama, do you know who you are dealing with?

The election of Barak Obama was a milestone for the United States and the possibility of "change" was on the horizon. He is smart, good looking and could sell ice to Eskimo's but he has had problems selling some of his plans to the American people. Today, President Obama sent Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to Jerusalem to meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu. What will Gates tell Netanyahu about the President's point of view on issues ranging from Iran, Jerusalem and West Bank settlements? What Pro-Israel Jews in the US are wondering is why, it seems, this administration is pressuring Israel and not the "Palestinian Authority"?
Our President has made strong, public demands of Israel but has not demanded anything from the other side of the coin. Some Jews I have discussed this matter with provide this answer,"He is trying to build bridges with people that hate us, he needs to publicly look like he doesn't support Israel over the "Palestinians"." I hear what they are saying but since when do we sell our Allies out to try to appease groups of people who hate us (in most cases)? Why not demand that the "Palestinian Authority" abide by the steps of the Road Map, which all parties involved agreed to?
The answer is that a majority of the so-called left wing in the US has become Anti-Israel. This is President Obama's base and one of the major reasons he got elected, so it is understandable that he would try to appease this group of voters. Now, I am not saying that all people who associate with the Democrats and the left wing are becoming Anti-Israel but for some reason it has become a well known fact that the "Palestinian" cause is looked upon more favorably by the Democrats and the left wing of the US political spectrum. This is an interesting turn of events since the Democratic Party was established and know as "The Jewish Party".
I have written plenty of pieces about how Jew's seem to be the biggest problem to Jews and The Jewish State. So there is no need to kick a dead horse, especially when everyone knows that the horse is already dead! The problem with President Obama's approach to peace is that he is not aware of how the Arab governments and leaders negotiate. Words of peace are whispered through out the Arab world almost as much as words of hatred are but history has proven that peace with the Arab world is not made without a partner. Menachem Begin had a partner with Anwar Sadat, Yizhak Rabin had King Hussein... who is there to negotiate with now?
Abu Mazen of the PA (President of the "Palestinian Authority") is not in any position to make peace because he does not rule all of the "Palestinian" people. He is the leader of Fatah in the West Bank and is unable to even control Gaza after Israel gave him control. The "Palestinian" people have become career victims but not by their choice but by their own government. With billions of dollars in aid at their disposal, the PA has not done anything but fund terrorism and lined the pockets of their government officials. No streets have been built, no economy exists, no self reliance has been proven or established. They survive off of aid from the US, Israel and the United Nations. So how can they survive as a sovereign state when they cannot even provide for themselves? Israel has taken on the responsibility of providing for them just to see it back fire when terrorist attacks happen.
What President Obama needs to do is to support Prime Minister Netanyahu's attempt to create a two state solution based on economic incentives. Demand steps by the PA and not by Israel, Israel has done enough to try to broker peace and goodwill. When the "Palestinians" stop blaming everyone else for their problems and look towards themselves and their government for solutions (other than terrorism)... they will finally have a true opportunity for peace and only them will they become a legitimate partner for peace. Let's also remember the great quote of Abba Ebban, "The Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity."
