Obama: He's No Harry Truman by Jerrold L. Sobel

If you hate “I told you so’s,” every Jew that loves Israel but voted for Barack Obama is going to hate this article. Today our president, while kissing up to the spineless Europeans, really showed his hand Vis –a-Vis Israel by endorsing the 2002 Saudi Mideast peace initiative. As quoted in today’s Jerusalem Post, the White House reiterated Obama’s support of this plan which “calls for a full Israeli withdrawal from all territories taken in the Six Day War, including east Jerusalem, and a “just settlement” to the Palestinian refugee crisis in exchange for normalizing ties with the Arab world.” Two things for sure; when it comes to the Jews, our President is no Harry Truman; and my record is intact; I never heard of a Hussein that had good intentions for Israel.

To begin with, for those of us old enough to remember, the days leading up to the Six Day war were very ominous for Israel. Nasser had thrown out the U.N. “peace keepers” from the Sinai and re-militarized the Peninsular. Syria, like Hamas in Gaza today, incessantly showered northern Israel with rockets from the Golan Heights. To the east, despite pleas to stay out of the brewing conflict, the Hashemite harlot, King Hussein; (there goes that name again) backed by Iraqi troops and the PLO attacked Israel after he was convinced by Nasser that Israel was losing the war. The major thrust of his attack was a heavy bombardment of Jerusalem, followed by hand to hand fighting throughout what historically was the Jewish capital. Ultimately, and at a very heavy cost, the Jordanians were defeated and Jerusalem once again is the capital of Israel. This is what Obama would like Israel to return on a silver platter for a hypothetical recognition. Likewise, our President has no qualms or reservations about Israel returning to the indefensible borders of the 1948 armistice, or returning the Golan Heights to the Iranian proxies, the Syrians; the same despotic Syrians that used this mountainous territory to rein havoc upon the Jewish State for so many years. As if this isn’t enough; in his conversation with that other great libertarian, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, Obama is willing to acquiesce to a “just settlement” of the Palestinian refugees whose ancestors left Palestine at the behest of the “Arab Liberation Armies” during the 1948 War of Independence. Presently comprising 20% of Israel’s population, Doesn’t he realize what a return of millions of Arabs back into Israel would do to the Jewish demographic of that country? Does he care? Between the onslaught of refugees and the birthrate disadvantage, Israel would soon become a minority and for all intents and purposes, she would become Palestine and no longer the homeland of the Jewish people. The Arabs would have won diplomatically and politically what they couldn’t achieve militarily. This conflict is the only one in history that I can find where the winner of five wars is expected to sue for peace. This is what an American President has hitched his horse to. This is the change he promised you.
